REVIEW -PADAM ONNU ORU VILAPAM

        Padam onnu : oru vilapam released in 2000 is a Malayalam movie directed by T.V.Chandran. He is acknowledged for his classic touch.The film had won the national award for the best movie in Malayalam and was exhibited in a number of film festivals in India and abroad.
         The film is based on the story by Aryadan Shoukath and the script is done by the director himself. The film throws light on the problems of child marriage prevailing in the Muslim community of Kerala.
         Shahina the daughter of Safeena is a fifteen years old girl studying in the 10th standard. Apart from her mother her only relative is her uncle Abdu. Shahina want to complete her schooling and joined the college for higher education. Abdul Razak proposed to shahina as his second wife. Shahina is compelled by Abdu,Hajiyar and the local priest to accept the match.
          Through she become the wife of Razak, Shahina refused to go to bed with him. Razak had to use some sedatives to fulfill his wish.The next day he takes her back to her home and eventually divorces her. Divorce comes more as a relief to shahina. She goes back to school.The Malayalam Teacher helps her in her studies. Shahina faints in the examination hall during the public examination.A medical test release that she is pregnant. Her mother dies hearing the shocking news. Her uncle also abandons her. Shahina becomes an orphan. She gives birth to a child. She and her baby add to the population of child mothers in the village.
           The film discuss the social problem of child marriage and exploitation of women in the name of religion  which still persist in the Muslim community of Kerala. Shahina tries to fight against and evil to strong for a feeble girl like her to fight. The last short of the film in which the infants sit on the seashore crying and waiting for their mother to return is a final apt to the title of the film.
            The performance of Meera Jasmine who played Shahina and K.G.Jayan's cinematography along with the craft of T.V.Chandran make this film a memorable experience.
